  1. 1)Martin Luther King was a hero to African Americans (and later other minorities), doing things that some were to scared do. he stood up to the government, fighting for what was right, making an impact on everyone and history. he was brave, courageous, hopeful, peaceful and had a dream that came true.
    2) Amelia Earhart was the first woman to pilot an airplane. she opened the gate for female pilots everywhere, though Bessie Coleman opened the door a little wider for black female pilots. Amelia showed bravery and determination from not giving up on her dream.
    3) justice league was the organization of superheroes working together to defeat the greater evil and other supervillians. though there not real, while growing up they did dhow me teamwork is important to get things done and a superhero never gets a vacation.and that superheroes can be black(Greenlanter and the animal lady).

    -They must respect others
-Be open minded to new things, no matter what it is
-Be an example... A GOOD EXAMPLE
    -Determination,courage
-Put the well being of others above their own
-Do deeds without expecting to be rewarded, selfless
Some actions that an everyday hero may take could be:
    -Helping someone carry something heavy
-Picking up a random piece of trash that's not yours
-Be the bigger person in any situation
-Helping an old woman/man cross the DANGEROUS street

This is my weekend discussion for #23.
Well in class last week, we learned some interesting things about Christopher Columbus. Although he discovered America, which is good, he did some bad things when he discovered it.
    1. Columbus took the Native Americans from America to Spain so they could slaves after he discovered them.
    2. The reason for him doing number one was that he exaggerated the amount of gold that he found while he was there so he could get an award. So after telling that fib he needed something to pay his debt off.
    3. Finally Columbus tried buying gifts for all the people so that they would think that he was "God". Nobody can be God.
So I'm not saying that he did all bad it's just he did a lot of bad things to do one good thing and I didn't agree with those things he did. I also agree with eye.of.the.tiger.98 because it's true how people give a lot credit to Amelia Earhart and Bessie Coleman and they didn't really do anything.

Many people believe that our President Barak Obama is a hero for America. I do not think he is a hero for many reasons. One of the biggest reasons is because he uses other people's actions for his personal agenda. An example of him doing this is when Osama Bin Laden was caught and killed by our Military. He wasn't in office when the mission went out to capture Bin Laden and he wasn't the one to actually do the dirty work, yet he still used it as an excuse to be congratulated. Another reason I don't feel like our President is a hero is because he makes bad choices for our country. Our economy isn't in the best shape and he continues to make decisions that only promote laziness but that boost his support group because it appeals to those who want to take the easy way out in life instead of working hard. The third reason I fail to see our presidents heroic qualities is that he doesn't have the American pride I think a president should have. When Whitney Houston died, he gave her a huge memorial speech but thousands of good American soldiers die everyday and President Obama doesn't say a word. I really can't view a man that puts drug abuse and fame over hard word and selflessness as a hero.

I agree with eye of a tiger because Amelia Earhart was a wonderful female hero that opened many doors for modern women. =

    1. I tottaly and fully disagree with you. Do you talk to President Barak Obama everyday and see what he has to say about things that happen in our country.No.President Barak Obama does not promote laziness. If he promoted laziness why would he even want to become president and put forth all the effort that he does now.It dosent make sense does it.No.I supported Obama because I judged him to have a keen analytical mind, grasping both the possibilities and the limits of activist government, and possessed of excellent communicative talents. I thought he would nudge government policy in an incrementally better direction. I consider his presidency an overwhelming success.
I can understand why somebody who never shared Obama’s goals would vote against his reelection. Also if you have a problem with our President supporting gay people youre probably and more than likely a Christian. You have to realize that everyone is not a christian and they do not have to agree with Christians because of a thing called free will.Who are you to judge people and say that they shouldnt be allowed to practice in what they believe in is right. What if someone said you can't practice Christianity because i ndont believe in what yuou believe in.Anyways overall President Barak Obama is a deern good President and he has been kicking butt since he was put in office in 2008.So nothing you say will ever lead me to believe that President Barak Obama is not a good President.

    2. My opinions on our president were questioned and I would like to give some more examples as to why I believe what I believe.

Chris Kyle a hugely decorated sniper died this year, there were HUGE memorial services set up by his family. He was a TRUE American hero but our President didn't give a word of recognition to Kyle. How can you justify that? Another reason I don't think our President is all he's cracked up to be, is that he's two-faced. During both of his campaigns he went on and on about President Bush's mistakes yet a week ago at the Opening of the Bush Library President Obama went on and on about what a great man Bush is. How can I trust a man with my country when he can't make a decision on how he feels! President Obama is not a hero. He is just another egotistical politician that uses The American people for his own personal success.

If you still don't understand I'd be glad to tell you more.

  6. I am answering question #2.
Many people consider Christopher Columbus a hero, but he is indeed not a hero. Why are we taught to glorify Mr.Columbus's achievements?20th century scholarly estimates give Christopher Columbus and his crew a kill count of between 250,000 people to a high of 8.4 million. Their deaths came at the hands of rape, torture, overwork, starvation, and disease.Columbus and the Spanish slave trade were almost successful in completely wiping out the Arawak population in the Bahamas as well.MY second reason is Christophher Columbus was a scam artist. The truth of the matter is that Columbus had no idea where he was going in the first place, had sub-par navigation skills, and STOLE THE MAPS he used to get to North America in the first place (a crime that was punishable by death at the time). He also changed his name to escape his poor reputation– becoming Cristofo Colombo, Cristóbal Colón, and ultimately Christopher Columbus. Some historians have even begun to question the traditional accounts surrounding Columbus’ Italian origins and claim that Columbus was in fact a Portuguese Jew whose real name was Salvador Fernandes Zarco.Reaso number three. We well know that Columbus was not the first European explorer to reach the Americas – having been preceded by the Norse expedition led by Leif Ericson and countless older Viking (and African???) explorers. There are plenty of other reasons why Christopher Columbus should never be called a hero and he should not be celebrated.

I think that every hero should be kind, courageous, and respectful. I think those are the most important traits a good hero should have. They should have courage, kindness, respect, and bravery. if anyone does a random act of kindness they can also be considered a hero. if they help other people without being asked, they are considered a hero.

I also agree with i_like_candy because he/she has a good list of what makes a hero. those traits are the ones that you have o follow to be a hero.

One living hero is Staff Sergeant Salvatore Giunta, who earned the medal of honor in 2010 for rescuing his squad leader while wounded , then following up that event, he saw insurgents taking an american soldier hostage so he killed one and wounded the other. bringing him back home. He is selfless, courageous, brave. One deceased hero is a man named, Chris Kyle, an ex navy seal that was brave, willing to serve his country, and as well as selfless. He was a sniper in the Navy Seals.A fictional hero is Dalton (The guy from the movie Roadhouse)he is an inspiring, brave, smooth guy. He takes care of trouble and always tries to do the right thing.

  9. In accordance to the opinions stated by @Monroe98, I'd say that I don't think President Obama is a good example of a hero at all. To me, a hero is someone who puts themselves in as much danger as the item or person being victimized. Based on my current knowledge of Obama's life and the few biographies I've read over the years, Obama has never struggled with money or been in a situation that millions of Americans push through every day. Therefore, he is unfit of the title "Hero" in my eyes. However, everyone is entitled to their opinion, @KeyBlogger.

I'll be answering question number one.
In light of the recent Ohio findings, I think Charles Ramsey is a hero. Not only did he save all three women who'd been held captive in a house for a decade, but also the child of one of the women. He called the police after the first woman and her child had escaped with his help. He put himself in danger, kicking down the door to pull her out of the house and getting reinforcements to take care of the other two women and the man who'd taken them into his confinement.

Another figure (or figures) that are truly heroes are all the men who have fought in the American Army to protect our country. They're putting themselves in more danger than anyone could ever ask. Most of them do not return home. Although i don't know any single fighter who i can specifically call a hero, but just see it as a whole effort towards heroism. All the deceased soldiers as a whole are one big hero.

Lastly, a fictional character i consider a hero would be Jake Sully. Played by Sam Worthington in the hit movie 'Avatar,' Jake is assigned a mission to be an Avatar. He's under Colonel Miles Quaritch's commend (played by Stephen Lang), but when he falls in love with the daughter of the Avatar's tribe leader, Neytiri (played by Zoe Saldana), he sees how wrong the mission is and changes sides. He bravely takes a step for what he believes in, saving most of the Avatar people. But he puts himself in more danger than anyone thought he would, and proved himself a hero by protecting his new family and destroying the threatening outside forces.

    Those are my three heroes.

  10. 3)I think a hero should be respectful, encouraging, and bravery. People can be hero's any day by helping the ones in need or being kind to those that are alone. There are hero's everywhere in our community

    ReplyDelete
  11. 3) I think a hero should be someone who is bold and isnt afraid of the wicked, someone who will stand up for the right thing to do,and not turn his back, for example, Barack Obama a lot of people consider him a hero especially in the African American society 1 being because he stood up for ius by becoming the first African American president

    ReplyDelete
  12. 3) A hero should be someone who is courageous and isn't afraid to help others. I consider Michael Jackson because he stood up for himself no matter what people said. He stood up for himself and others through the music he wrote. He didn't care about what other people said.

    ReplyDelete
  13. 3) I think a hero should be someone that would risk his own life to help others. Also he/she should not be afraid to stand out of the crowed to stand for what he thinks is right. They don't have to be rich to be a hero all you have to do is simply hold a door open for someone, it might not mean alot to you but it could really change them.

    ReplyDelete
  14. 3 ) I say a hero is someone that will always be there for everyone and is always happy to help others. A hero should be trustworthy, caring , have a big heart, selfless, courageous, helpful, etc... But the main one for me is trustworthy. Being an everyday hero can be as simple as to opening a door for a handicapped , lending out a hand to person in need , or just by saying hi to someone who's day is not going so well. I also believe hero's will always be there for you , even if its for the most littlest things .

  15. Nintendo144gms May 13, 2013 9:01 P.M Discussion Topic #3

I know an everyday hero must become self-sacrificing, honest, caring, responsible, and have free will. Self-Sacrificing is putting up what you're doing and trying to help others in need. So when someone gave up his special privilege just to comfort you at a memorial, he would be considered as a hero who looks out for others. Honesty is when you keep your word to do a specific job, never cheat or steal, and when you want to tell your friends and families the truth about whatever situation you were in. Honesty can make you a true friend and a great hero who would never want to betray their trust on them. Caring can make someone truly love a person and wants to look after him/her. A compassionate hero always makes them more approachable for other people and their problems. Responsibility is having people trust you with their problems and you do what is required. If someone trusts you to take out the trash and he did it, that person would feel grateful and can extend more trust to him. So responsibility is a must for heroes who want to become trustworthy. Free will is standing up for what you believe in and never yielding to the pressures of others, but though there’s some things that true heroes don’t do, like protesting. If someone wants somebody to do something wrong and he refused, he’ll set up an example to others that’ll not allow their peers or desires to make them their slaves. These qualities can make a great hero, so here are some suggestions on you can do to apply these qualities. First, you can you’re your time and energy to help care for those afflicted with any type of illness, either physically, mentally, and emotionally. Second, you must keep your word and do what your friend or family member want you to do, like trying to do chores when you've been invited to a concert. Finally, you must avoid any non-business contact with unsavory people and must think for yourselves in order to stand up to them, and leave from the scene quickly. Apply these methods, and you’ll be considered a hero. So that’s what I know an everyday hero is.

  16. "A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” - Christopher Reeve, This quote is what being a hero means to me. an every day hero should have the courage to defeat all his obstacles and should not be afraid to ask for a lending hand, someone who not matter the circumstances or odd will always give 100% of his effort for the well being of other.Someone who would sacrifice himself for the safety of other, a person that can make decisions that will benefit the whole group not just one individual.Someone who is willing to accept change/ being open minded, Should always try to better things. Learn how to earn respect by trust not fear and this one is just for me lol a sense of humor wont hurt either :)

  18. #3: IN my opinion the characteristics of a hero are, courageous, sympathetic, caring, honest, and responsible. A hero she be willing to leave his/her comfort zone or put his/her self in danger to help someone else. It is human nature to be selfish, but heros should be selfless and think about other people. Last a hero should always stand up for what he/she thinks is right no matter what they do or where they are.

You don't have to wear a red cape or leap high buildings in order to be an Everyday Hero. You just have to commit to doing the little extra acts of kindness that you are not otherwise obligated to do. Small acts of give us an opportunity to change the world.A hero is someone who can be looked up to for their actions. Bravery is usually the biggest trait of a hero. This person has usually overcome huge obstacles to survive or to rescue others . Heroes come in all sizes. Sick children, grown firefighters, doctors, missionaries, philanthropists are all examples of heroes.Heroes are found in every day life, and many exhibit qualities of fearlessness, humility, inner strength, and helpfulness. Heroes in our lives are the ones that want to make a small difference in the world.A hero is somebody who, no matter what the odds, will fight to do what is right. Somebody that believes that if you can help another person, in any way, you have a moral obligation to help that person. A hero is somebody that cannot stand the very though of injustice. Our world is full of heroes, and I'm proud to be one.A hero can be a person that saves lives and stuff but hero's can be anyone that does something they have fear for but are brave enough to still do

    Qualities of an everyday hero:
    1. they must respect others and their property
    2. they must help when help is needed
    3. they mustn't think they are above the law
    4. they must be ready to face danger
    5. put others before themselves

actions that an everyday hero may take:
    1. always ready to take the blame for others
    2. stop bully when see anything wrong
    3. help the less privilege
I also agree with i_like_candy because a hero must set a good example for others so they can follow his/her foot steps

    1. What does it mean to be a successful person? Be sure to explain at least five character traits and three actions which can lead to individual success.
To be a successful person you need to to be able to accomplish things no matter how hard they may seen, you need to be able to persevere, you need to be organized, well prepared, and have very positive thinking. Three actions that can lead a person to success are: get good grades, make goals, and never give up on those goals.

There are millions of ways an ordinary human being can become a hero in our society. You don't need a silly costume and a goofy name to be a hero, and you don't have to always save a persons life to be considered a hero. Of course people such as: firefighters, policemen, and soldiers are considered heroes because of their bravery in the world's conflicts, but bravery isn't the only quality you can/must have to be a hero. Parents can be heroes for their selflessness, and loving care for their young; teaching them right from wrong, and disciplining their mistakes. You don't have to be a parent to be a hero either, if you prefer. Just be an average citizen and be considerate to the people around you. Give money, or food to the poor or at fundraisers, but I don't mean give everything you have, just what you can give. Like I said before, there's a variety of ways to be hero. You don't have to be like Superman Batman, or Spider-Man, just be yourself, an average hero.

    2. A person can become a every day just by simply. helping and person who is in news of help. like if you see a homeless person on the street he/she will help them get food and wate. If a person sees someone struggling with homework he/she is willing to help someone else before they help themselves. That is a every day hero.

  22. #2 I am choosing a deceased person who is considered a hero by many people but I personally don't believe that this person is a hero. This person is Christopher Columbus. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that he his this evil and horrible person but I just don't believe that he is what everybody says he is.These are 3 example that just show you how non-heroic he is claimed to be.

1.One of his crew members found the land that is known as the Bahamas, a prize was to be given to the person who found it, so Columbus said he found it and received the prize. This was a very selfish and disloyal move.

    2. He is convinced that he "discovered" land that people were already living on. This is an example of lieng which is not a characteristic of a real hero.

    3. He forced natives to find gold where there was none, and if they did not find any Columbus would kill them. This is just being mean which is another quality usually not found in a hero.

  23. 3. Someone can be an everyday hero by being selfless(as in thinking of others and not themselves), courageous(as in helping others while you fight the same thing), dedication(as in doing something even though everyone else gave up hope in you),sacrifice(as in being able to give something up for a greater cause),and brave(as in being able to do something even though you are scared). Somethings you can do to be an everyday hero is to volunteer, go into the military service, or help a friend past an obstacle in their lives.
