"The best way to predict the future is to invent
it."
- Alan Kay
CONSIDER: You, as the next generation, are considered to be “the future” by adults. What are your responsibilities as members of “the future?” What does Kay mean when he says that you must “invent” the future in order to “predict” it?
Please consider
that we have learned three essential parts necessary to answer a question:
- Idea statement (similar to a thesis; summarizes your point)
- Evidence (in this case, the evidence is your experience and knowledge)
- Explanation (combine with evidence to prove your point)
Use
this format to answer these weekend discussions from now on; please also do
these things:
- Use a pseudonym (pen name) and not your real name when posting,
- Respond to someone else’s answer whenever possible, and
- Be polite and positive at all times!

ReplyDeleteI think that what Alan Kay is saying that the future depends on us,
the next generation, because our actions will have the most impact on the future.
If we decide to make foolish decisions in our life, everything that is passed down to us will corrupt and the future will be dim. BUT if we make wise decisions using the knowledge gained in our life, we will be better prepared for the future's obstacles, leading to a more productive future.

ReplyDeleteOur responsibly are to do our hard work and work on the possibilities we have to make our future bright. So we got to think ahead and “invent” the future by planning out our life and events we’re going to do in order to “predict” it. I heard numerous stories about kids or teenagers who plan their future and in the end, they managed to get through by setting goals. When you want to plan your future, you have to set goals for yourself and try to accomplish them, just as many of the kids are trying to do.

ReplyDeleteThis quote is a very good quote, and can be used in reality. What Allen is trying to say is don't just predict or say what you're going to be in life. You know the old sayings, talk is cheap, and actions speak louder than words? Connect it to this quote, do something to back it up. Like my old school used to say, "Work Hard, Get Smart." 9th and 10th graders, life is just around the corner. If you say you want to be a lawyer, engineer, doctor, etc, you got to study hard and study long. They won't hand you a good job just because you say you want it, you know.
