Your role in a seminar:
- to complete the readings and preparation for the seminar (coding, noticing/naming, documenting quotations, etc.),
- to participate in the seminar as much as possible by offering text-supported comments, observations, and opinions, and
- to offer respect to all members of discussion, even in light of a disagreement.
The teacher's role in a seminar:
- to observe all conversation,
- to record types of comments and opinions made, and
- to be an outside moderator with little interaction with the group
Grading marks:
- C = general comment
- O = personal opinion
- OR = repeat of opinion / agree
- DO = disagree with an opinion
- O+ = unique insight
- T = opinion with text evidence/reference
- E = expanding on another's opinion
- CL = clarified another's opinion
- A = comment/opinion applies to real situation
Remember -- the goal of a seminar is to go over what YOU want to discuss about the lesson or reading in a comfortable, open forum.
