"Good people do not need laws to tell
them to act responsibly, while bad people will
find a way around the laws."
- Plato (427-347
B.C.)
CONSIDER: Plato states that good people do not need laws – is he correct, and why? Why, and for whom, are laws essentially created? Will a “bad person” always try to get around a law, or does the law’s existence help him or her become a better citizen?

Laws are created to make a community become more civilized and careful about their actions. I don't agree with Plato as laws are for everyone, whether they are good or bad, and even good people can make bad decisions, so no he's not correct. A bad person isn't necessarily always going to break the law, as they might be going through a bad time, or have certain circumstances that make them "bad". Yes the law can make better citizens, but if people are constantly bombarded with laws, it can create more "bad people" throughout society.

ReplyDeleteI disagree with Plato because laws are what shape the community. It is a set of rules for "good" people to follow. If there were no laws, then good people would not know what is good. The law is created for everybody so that the community can be orderly. I do not believe that "bad" people will always try to find a way around the law. Breaking rules results in punishment, so after a while, "bad" people will try to change themselves not to be punished again.
In my opinion everyone needs laws, with out laws this world would be terriable. Even "good" people brake laws, they get broken everyday, same for the "bad" people because we always need them. I also believe that laws can not make a better person, that's a choice you can make on your own.
ReplyDeletei agree with this logic anybody can be bad anybody can be good basically if there are no laws anyone can be bad or good as well

ReplyDeleteGood people recognize the laws and do their best to try to follow them. So I disagree with him there. But there are many different type of "bad" people out there. Some who find their ways around the laws since they find the only way they find reason and enjoyment is to break the law. Others who don't truly understand the consequences of breaking that law and then try to change to make sure they don't face anything like that again.

ReplyDeleteI agree with LoveBug because it does not matter if you are good and you dont need laws.Or if you are bad you dont need laws.Everybody is different.Thats like saying if that person is good then they dont need any rules at all.
