(9th) Weekend Discussion #8

"There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle."

- Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

CONSIDER: What does Einstein mean by treating life events as “miracles”? Which of his two options, in your opinion, is the better way to view life, and why? How does his statement apply to your life experiences?

  1. Life is a miracle. Anyone should be happy for just being alive. For people who have experienced a near-death situation, life especially for them is a miracle since they can live to see things develop around them which includes watching them self develop. Because of this, I think that everyone should think life as a miracle. Who wouldn't want to be alive. One of my family members was in the hospital in some point and could have died. She didn't and I am grateful for that. I see her being alive as a miracle because I can live with her and laugh with her now. That was one way this quote applied to me.

"What this quote means to me is that everything in the world doesn't just drop into your possesion, you have to earn what you want. For example, say you skip school and go to a high ranked business to get a job. You expect them to give it to you? Once they see you've skipped school, they probably won't even give you the lowest job they have. I remember what my grandmother used to say to my mother who lived in the country long ago, if you don't work, you don't eat. All this comes to show you that people won't give things to you, and they don't have a care in the world about what happens to you in the long run. Like my dad always says, there's a time to play, and a time to work. Don't think your life will be play, play, play always, you'll have to work sometimes."

  3. In my opinion a event that is good is great and should be a miracle, it should be cherished, but for some even bad things are good in their own way. If a bad thing happened to you it probably tought you something therefore it is a miracle that you finally learned such a thing. Always view things as miracles is my point of view. Good or bad, either way it is a miracle. Ive learned things and i have experienced things all that have tought me lessons. Everything should be seen as a miracle.

I think what it means is that not every thing is going to be handed to you on a silver platter,so always try your best with every thing you do.And every thing is a miracle because you never know what might happen tomorrow you could die today,so always be great full for every thing you have.

what this quote means to me is that every thing in this world is not free and it is for enjoyment ,there is a quote that says short cut cuts your life short , and there is no way we live life without facing pains and sorrow it is a normal way of life. my mom always tell me to live life and win because no one can live my life for me she said that i am here for a purpose the statement really touches my heart to think twice

  6. Its basically saying when you get new things or see your life is coming together its easier. You'll feel like you've been blessed. But the other half is saying to get to that point some things will be hard and wont seem easy.

  7. While I agree completely with all of the 6 people who posted before me, I would like to add something I saw about the quote that no one else noted on. The way I saw the quote, the "two ways" he mentions could easily be replaced with being an optimist or a pessimist.
Also, elaborating on the previous points made by my peers, I think the first of the "two ways," or being optimistic, is the happier way to live your life, though it is the harder one for most people; most people have some difficulty attempting to be consistantly optimistic, I have noticed. Nonetheless, I do not take my own advice, as I am almost always pessimistic and i do not tend to treat things "as though everything is a miracle."

Einstein probably mean that we should view our events as something worthwhile and treat our events with respect and enjoy them, thereby treating it as a “miracle”. I think the second option is best because you should enjoy every last minute of your life or event with respect because you’ll never know what is around the corner. but if you see the event as something tragic, you should still treat it with respect without making it worse than usual. I once went to Galveston with my parents this weekend, and we went to the beach outside after dinner. At first, I was nervous of the sand containing insects or animals, But I get to enjoy the water in the sand and calmed down a little. I’ve been to the beach a very few times, so this have been a nice time to have in there and I got to treat a little of it as a “miracle”.
